The CRDA will host dressage coach Laurel Myers on March 13th & 14th, 2010. Laurel is a certified (OEF) English Level 2 dressage coach who, for over 25 years, has trained students and horses through 4th level in the Ottawa area (Canada). Laurel has worked extensively with noted dressage trainers Kirsten Blaeske, Neil Ishoy, and Walter Zettl.
Laurel owned and operated Patanal Farm in Ottawa where she brought many amateur riders and horses up through the levels. She is a great supporter of the grassroots rider and prides herself on helping amateur riders gain a solid dressage foundation. Whether working with riders completely new to dressage or those with advanced understanding, Laurel has had visible success helping her riders with horses of any size, breed and temperament. Laurel believes all horses benefit from dressage training.
With a vast array of interesting exercises under her belt, Laurel helps her riders improve longitudinal and lateral suppleness and get their horses through. “When the basics are there, the “tricks” are easy”, says Laurel. “Helping riders understand the importance of their dressage foundation and appreciate why the training scale is so critical to overall success is very rewarding for me.”
Laurel is continually advancing her own education and studying new ways to help her riders, achieve better results with their horses and competition records.

A note about the OEF Certification Program
The OEF certification program tests coaches on their ability to compete, train horses and coach students to a specified level. In addition to various classroom components on mentoring, teaching methods, theory and horsemanship, the Level 2 certification requires the trainer to demonstrate their achievements in the following areas:

• have shown at a minimum of two (2) shows at Third Level or higher, with a minimum score of 60%

• have prepared a horse which has competed at a minimum of two (2) shows at Third Level or higher with a minimum score of 60%

• Two years coaching experience producing students competing at First Level or higher, with a minimum score of 60%

Once these requirements are met, the candidate is then tested in several categories: riding (flat), riding (gymnastics), discipline option (jumping, cross-country, or dressage), practical & theory, coaching and training.
