| 2010 was a notable year of change for the CRDA. After much deliberation and discussion, the CRDA officers and board made the recommendation to relinquish our USDF GMO status… and our members agreed. As a result, membership fees have been reduced!! Of course, while the discussion was weighty, you’ll see that the impact on events planned for the 2011 season is well, non-existent.
Here’s an overview of what’s going on but do check out our site at www.crdressage.org for up-to-date info.
The CRDA will again hold four schooling shows (May, July, August and October). CRDA shows are a great way to experience what it’s like to ride a dressage test in a polished and professional environment without the extreme stress or cost of the big shows. Be a member, join us for at least two shows, ride at least three tests and you may even be eligible for a year-end award! We have to mention that in 2010, we had a significant number of riders who would have won a year-end award but were not members. If you haven’t been to one of our awards banquets, let us just mention that the CRDA has excellent year-end ribbons and awards and we love to give them out! Our year-end clinician and banquet have not been finalized but November is the target. Stay tuned for more info!
Spring and summer Adult Camps have been a big hit in years past and 2011 will be no different. These camps are more than just a clinic and while the format may be modified depending on the clinician and number of riders, they are generally spread over 2 or 3 days, with up to two lessons each day, lunch time demos and a general sense of camaraderie. In April we bring back the very popular duo of Lynne Kimball Davis and Cindy Snowden while August sees the return of Yvonn Coleman-Larson with a new clinician pairing, Mona Gaudet. Adult Camps are really a unique experience and if you’ve never tried one, we really recommend it.
We again will run two mounted clinics and are honored to have Laurel Myers returning to us from Ottawa, Canada. The feedback from our first clinic with her in 2010 was overwhelmingly positive so if you didn’t have a chance to ride with her, we definitely recommend trying to make it this year. We have also added a new clinician to our 2011 roster – Mark Russell specializes in blending Natural Horsemanship with Artistic Dressage – and from everything we’ve heard, read and seen on YouTube we know he’s going to be great for this club.
We hold our club meetings on the first Tuesday of every month -- we at meet at 7:30pm at the “Party Barn” at Apple Knoll Farm in Millis (do check www.crdressage.org to make sure there hasn’t been a schedule change), and these meetings are open to all members. We talk about what needs to get done but we often manage to fit in some socializing over a beverage or a snack so please do join usJ.
Finally the CRDA is 100% run by volunteers and we always benefit from more help. Interested in writing an article? Helping out at a clinic? Volunteering at a show? It’s a great learning opportunity and well, we simply could not exist if not for all of our fantastic volunteers. There are not enough words to describe how invaluable you really are. Just drop a line to any of our officers if you can lend a hand.
To all our members, we appreciate each and every one of you and hope that you will continue to support CRDA. Here’s looking forward to a great 2011!!!
